I have been to several neurologists and the basilar/sporadic hemiplegic migraines diagnosis was tossed around a bit. I went to a neurologist last Friday and these basilar migraines were again suspected. They cause visual and auditory disturbances and can occur with or without pain. Like all migraines, intense light and noise makes them worse. Here's a summary of the symptoms:

"Basilar migraines are known for their strange aura symptoms. Sometimes the strange visual aura can be two sided, and can be so bad it leads to temporary blindness. It's usually followed by incoordination (ataxia), double vision, vertigo, ringing in the ears, jerky eye movements, trouble hearing, slurred speech, and more severe versions of other migraine symptoms, such as nausea, prickly feelings on the body, sensitivity to
light and/or sound, and trouble thinking clearly. This stage of the headache usually lasts about 5-60 minutes, but can last days in some cases."

The aura:

"Some migraineurs (i dont know why i think this term is funny) have visual disturbances: they may see flashing lights, jagged lines, circles, squares, or distortions of things they see. Objects may seem further away or closer. Visual distortions due to migraine have been said to have inspired Lewis Carroll in his book Through the Looking Glass."

So you any of you get migraines or have pressure in the back of your head? Does anyone in your extended family have problems with migraines?

The other thing I am looking into is temporal lobe seizure/absence seizures. I think 'jamais vu' describes what happens to me during severe episodes of DP. However, my EEG indicates that I don't have them.

Of course I have issues with anxiety and feelings of vulnerability that have been cause by my brain's inability to operate correctly. I now think that the dehumanizing shame/lack of confidence component of DP might contribute as much to the disorder as the migraine itself (if it is a basilar migraine).

Anyways, does anyone have pressure in the back of their heads or migraines?

Yes, I suffer from the aura migraines and it was that and tension headaches that caused me to have the panic attacks which led to Derealisation. I'm also an anxious person and was taking on too much work at the time. I think the stress made the migraines worse than normal which caused me to panic.
