On the reccommendation of a friend, who's view on my problem is that I go too far into my head (and can't get out) and need to learn how to connect with my body, I have been doing a beginners lyoga course. I am completely unconcentrated and unco-ordinated most of the time which brings back memories of humiliation in P.E. classes at school. I am also constantly distracted by negative thought loops.

However, today, I do feel it has made a significant difference to my state of mind. Feel marginally more with it and marginally more positive about the possibility of change than a couple of hours ago.......so am determined to persevere, despite the public shame!

One thing that interests me is that a key principle of yoga is learning how to connect with the breath and focussing the mind in on that. Focus inwards is what the teacher says sometimes, and I think to myself, is that wise in my case?? But perhaps her inwards, is my outwards....its all relative.

i've been thinking of doing some yoga myself for a while but have been wary of any kind of meditation in case it makes matters worse. seems like its working ok for you maybe i'll join up seeing as other past times (those centred around alcohol) are out at the moment

i used to do yoga and was well practised in all of the basic asanas, the trouble is you are told to concentrate on your third eye(minds eye) and for me this was uncomfortable as it was looking inwards and not focussing outwards whatsoever...but sticking to the asanas isnt a problem just try and stay away from the deep meditation part of yoga...
