No. But that piece about causing DP feelings seems a little eerie.

Wellbutrin is very stimulating so it usually causes anxiety. It may be the reason that dp/dr is a side effect. I think its more recommended for people that only have depression. If you have moderate to severe anxiety than I wouldnt recommed it.

Dear TwinklzD,
I could shoot my psychiatrist who was usually very good with medications. At 200mg on Wellbutrin I had the strangest experience.

I was sitting at the computer (so new?) and felt a "shift" in consciousness, it was BIG, I felt "something huge was about to happen", literally like an "awareness" or even more I thought, "The DP is going to go away, right now!" Then WHAP the WORST DP/DR I'd had in a looooong time.

Mind you, this is my personal experience. Some people swear by Wellbutrin. My doctor was using the logic that it would "perk me up", help my depression.

I was immobilized by it. Took me I don't know how long to get to the phone to call the shrink. I told him, "I'm having the worst DP in the world" and he said, "Well just stop it" and hung up. I think that was the beginning of the end of any real respect I've had for psychiatrists. He is/was very arrogant. Not one comforting word.

I swear I don't think mental health professionals in general know how horrifying the experience is. They DON'T GET IT.

The odd thing about Wellbutrin, and I think Joe said this, is that it has some "stimulant" effect. I don't know the chemical properties (could look them up), but it's not like an SSRI. I've had my best luck w/Celexa combined w/Lamictal/Klonopin and Nortriptyline (a tri-cyclic).

I have depression, as well as anxiety, DP/DR.

My vote on Wellbutrin is a negative. But there are many others here who have had excellent results with it.

As always, we are all Unique

Best,
D

P.S. -- the bad DP/DR faded over time -- during that day? and I quit cold turkey, PER MY DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS. "Just stop it." I was doing better next day. Back to my baseline DP/DR.

DP is the pits. Sometimes you have to experiment to see what works though.

My two cents:

If you are primarily depressed and dp'd, the wellbutrin might help. If you are primarily anxious and dp'd, it might make it worse.

But...that said, I really liked wellbutrin. I have however, heard other stories, similar to Dreamer's above..where the poor person was sent into outer orbit by wellbutrin. Caution. Use caution.

Also, if I wasn't sure how I was going to respond to a med, I would NOT take an "xl" as my first experience. Ask the doctor for the "regular" wellbutrin if you decide to try it. If you hate it, an "xl" (stands for extended release) will last much longer in your system - it will be a longer ride in hell before it's out of your system. The "regular" wellbutrin will enter and exit your nervous system within several hours, rather than a fulll day. That way, IF you like the sensation, you can go onto the xl version. But if you freaked out, it's not as long a ride.

Peace,
Janine
