Well, a consultation can't hurt. You have freedom of choice and the opportunity to ask questions. I don't see anything negative about this, but I would regard it as a first step to seeing a therapist and more regular psychiatrist.

Appears like there's nothing to lose, but keep in mind the fact s/he is not a doctor, and is somewhat limited for that reason.

I'd recommend being wary if they prescribe benzos ? klonopin, ativan, etc. When I was hospitalized years back they wouldn't give me any because of my history of drug and alcohol abuse.

I do not think a nurse practitioner has a Ph.D. A NP is who you see when you don't have a very serious problem; he or she may not even have a master's degree (probably doesn't).

Psychologists in the US cannot say "psychologist" on their office door unless they have a Ph.D.
