hI,
I was curious to what other meds people are taking and why they were prescribed. I take Lexapro and Ativan and I don't know how much it's really helping me. I'm thinking about talking to my doc about trying something else. Please share what has worked for you. I'm not interested in hearing scary stories about how meds screwed you up.. I don't need to hear that right now. I would like to be off meds eventually, but I'm not ready right now. I've been on Lexapro and Ativan for obsessional anxiety for a long time and recently I had a bad relapse and I may need to switch or add something. Just curious what others are taking.

Thanks!

i have been on MANY meds. zoloft (helped initially, but i didn't have DP then), paxil (couldn't tolerate), prozac, celexa (best luck with this one), lamictal, wellbutrin, effexor (said to be good for anxiety disorders), a couple of tricyclics. none of these helped with my DP, but most of these i took before i had it. as far as anxiety goes, clonazepam (klonipin) has helped me the most. sheesh, too many to list. i haven't felt that the meds have done much for me, but i don't think i take well to meds. i am the geek that gets all the side effects, but little of the relief. keep trying though. i truly believe success can be achieved with meds, but i think therapy is just as important, if not more so.

don't hesitate to go to your doc and ask to be switched. also, if you just see a regular doc, you might want to see a psychiatrist, if at all possible. they specialize in these kinds of meds and would be better informed, in my opinion, to work with you on what works and what doesn't.

best of luck!

I like talking about meds, I?m like those old people. So I?m taking Zoloft and Risperdal. I don?t know if Zoloft has any effect but Risperdal keeps my head together. It took away such dp / dr symptoms as the endless float of meaningless words and the inexplicable fear, although not instantly. I still have other symptoms left but it gets me out of bed, not very early though. It was prescribed for me for derealization, which I?ve now had for about 10 months. Wow, time flies. (what species is that anyway  )

I have been on all sorts of meds. Currently I'm on 60mgs Prozac and 2 mgs Klonopin daily and 0.5 mg of Xanax as needed.

The first time I was on Prozac it worked... and I think the second time too... but this time I've been feeling really shitty lately and have been contemplating admitting myself to the mental hospital. I keep thinking about killing myself, but it'll never happen cuz I'm too scared to die. But it really hurts thinking like that all the time. So since Prozac was prescribed for my depression.... it's definitely not working. Which is weird cuz this is the highest dose of it I've ever been on.

Klonopin(prescribed for anxiety/panic)... without it I'd probably be in the hospital already. It helps me sleep at night, I used to be an insomniac. But I have also been sleeping in the daytime which isn't good. It helped with my DP for a long time, but now doesn't seem to be helping as much. But it keeps my fear kinda mellow if that makes any sense. Like instead of trembling or screaming I sit there probably looking pretty normal. But it's still hell inside.

Xanax(prescribed for panic attacks) is my safety net. Without that, I'd probably be in debt to the ER for visits for panic attacks. If I feel I'm gonna freak out I take one. I use it for road trips.... when I'm most panic attack prone.

Maria... is Risperdal anything like Seroquel? I know Seroquel is an antipsychotic and I was on it before, but it made me zombie-like, I would feel like crying but couldn't. You say Risperdal takes away the endless float of meaningless words and the inexplicable fear? I just might try it.

I was initially prescribed benzos for withdrawal from alcohol which caused an addiction 10x worse than the alcohol. I should have never taken any psychiatric drugs. Once I was addicted and in tolerance, I was a psychological mess of depression, anxiety, panic, and dp/dr. During the initial withdrawals the drug induced symptoms were magnified by 10x. Now off of benzos for over 2 years and currently completely drug free, I feel pretty damn good. I can get thru my day without feeling like Im going crazy regardless of my stress level. My depression is completely gone and my anxiety level is very low. It literally feels like my original brain chemistry is taking over and allowing me to relax properly and sleep 10 hours per night. The recovery has been slow, but I feel Im very close to complete recovery. I still have tinnitus and a few other weird symptoms like brain shakes and buzzing in my teeth. From what Ive read it seems that for many these symptoms never go away and are probably a type of drug induced brain damage.

thanks for your responses! (except for dakota.. thats that exact type of thing i didn't need to hear right now, because not all people react to meds the same..)

i'm going to talk to my psych doc soon and see if a med change is needed. I think the Lexapro has helped me alot, but I know these meds can help and then stop working as well, so that might be whats up with me.

Regardless.. I really appreciate your responses!
