For me, my DPDR is usually the worst in the morning. I wake up and barely know who I am/where I am, I'm dizzy, disoriented, and I almost always start panicking. The sun makes this ten times worse. For some reason if I wake up when the sun is out I'm guaranteed to have a huge panic attack. Sunny days seem to really freak me out. When I think about going outside in the sun I panic. So I take a xanax as prescribed and usually after about an hour I feel a bit better. But I feel so awful until then that I'm sure I'm about to die. Any tips for making waking up easier?

When this first hit me I couldn’t even open my eyes because everything looked fake. I felt dizzy, all weather made it worse. Cloudy weather is the worse for me. Any lights at the market. Even the yelllows dim lights at home. The minute I would open my eyes I would get hit with the most herrondeous panic and anxiety. Which came with this Dp/dr crap. I never suffered from any anxiety or panic disorder before this. Anyways, this went on for 6 months until last month I started on Efferxor. I no longer wake up with those hideous feelings. And when I do feel a bit of anxiety/panic in the afternoon and when I know I’m going outside I already take Xanax and it helps. So, are you on any long term anxiety/panic medications?

Thank you for your quick reply, HopingCat. :) Yes, I am on a long term SSRI and I'm supposed to take Xanax three times a day. It's too early to see if the long term med is working, but hopefully it kicks in soon. I'm glad I'm not the only one who trips out because of weather.

How long have you been on the SSRI and which one? I am hitting 6 weeks on Efferxor and 0.25mg of Xanax 3 times a day (been taking Xanax daily for about a week)

Do you go to bed at a regular time each night?

Routine is always good for better sleep, thus waking up feeling not too bad, also an alarm clock is a good idea, kicks the mind into knowing it's time to get up, it's a new day.

Even if i get up at 6am, shower, eat breakfast, prepare for the day properly etc etc etc my mind never kicks into gear until around lunchtime...For many years now i often arrive at lunch time wondering what the hell I was doing all morning.....Mental hangover without the sickly alcohol feeling is the way I would describe it...

Most mornings are a complete and utter daze..Total dreamworld like...

To be honest nowadays I dont force myself awake with an alarm clock....I sleep until my mind and body actually want to wake up...Only because ive had many years of insomnia due to DP and have to take advantage of the opportunity to sleep whenever I can...
