For years since DP started and even before, I would wake up exhausted, aching and feeling as though I may not have slept at all. I suspect it is low deep sleep linked to daily stress and anxiety reaching a point where I am burnt out and perhaps get too much REM sleep.. who knows, this has been the case since I was a teenager. Anyone else experience this?

I deal with this by sleeping longer. The downside to sleeping longer is that sleep/wake rhythm can become disrupted.

Sleep quality is a good hunch as to what you're experiencing. I'd suggest seeing a doctor for this. There are medicines that can help though they have the risk of behavioral dependency. Your sleep problems may be caused or exacerbated by some other condition such as depression or anxiety.

Honestly, you really need your sleep...at least 6 hours.
It's important to get sleep while going through derealization and depersonalization.

I do have trouble getting comfortable sometimes before sleep, but usually a fan or heater helps.

Lack of sleep and stress is what caused my dr and dp...my brain couldn't take anymore stress.

Good luck to you.

Ps: you could try some sleep meds, but I would be careful as some can be habit forming such as Ambien.

Cheers for polling peeps. I for reference before having my kid I would easily have 10hrs a night. Since my kid I have nearer 7hrs but feel no worse for it lol. Wake up just as tired, foggy mentally and aching.

Recently started the wim hof method (again lol) and found I am waking mega early like 6am so a lot less sleep. But feel more rested, energised and not aching. Specifically what I have done this time that is different is cold baths twice a week, other days showers. The bath days I sleep very well and it wipes me out so much I have a nap (I am NOT a napper usually lol as I struggle to drift off, takes me 30mins to fall asleep)..

So it's interesting anyway. The baths are very tough but getting less shocking.

If you're going far as to submerge yourself in cold water for several minutes that'll definitely have a calming effect. Some people try to achieve that by putting their face in cold water.

Personally I've noticed that when I'm away from my triggers, which happen to be loneliness and places I've had bad experiences at, I become sleepy and sleep perfectly.

Maybe what you're experiencing is fatigue and not sleepiness. But 8 hours is better than 6.
