i know a lot of other people here have vision problems, so i thought id just run it past you guys...
i find my eyes get tired pretty easily and as a result i have to focus really hard, otherwise my vision gets pretty blurry, or i get sorta double vision happening, not full on seeing double, more like when u watch a tv thats got a poor signal, and you get those sorta shadows.. well yeah, i seem to get that a lot.
im not sure if it's dp related, or whether it may just be a problem with my eyes. ive been meaning to get my eyes tested for a while, so i should prolly stop being so lazy and just get my eyes checked, more than likely it's probably just a problem with my eyes.
anyways, just thought id see if anyone else has similar problems.
hope your all doing well.
cheers
Luke.

luke...... i get the double vision thing alot especially when my eyes are tired and a heavy feeling behind the eyes with huge dilated pupils and my eyes seem bloodshot but pysically there is nothing wrong with my eyes......i dont know if what we are experiencing is the same as my double images apear to move until they merge back into one...ive put it down to anxiety and the pupils contracting and dilating.....but i could be wrong....if your really worried about it go for an eye check but i do think that will come back clear..

I got my eyes checked and i'll I had was a mild stigmatism. I have nothing else wrong with my eyes to explain the peripheral wackiness, eye pressure and light sensitivity i'm experiencing.

i had similar problems and my doctor said not to get my eyes tested. she says these problems are caused to neuron over activity behind the retina of the eye (GABA not working right), and have nothing to do with our eyes. i've run so many tests on myself for "peace of mind" and they all came back negative, and now i'm broke. think i'll trust my doc on that one  .

The theory is that cells that are GABA interneurons (have serotonin inputs and GABA outputs), which send out inhibitory signals to supressess overactivity of the visual system, are not functioning correctly. This hypothesis has been tested with individuals taking drugs that increase GABA efficiency (like Valium, Klonopin), which can reduce the visual problems. It is interesting that you doctor actually knew about this as one possibility. It is still a theory however, but drugs that increase GABA inhibitory responses have been shown to help individuals with similar visual perceptual problems. Additionally, individuals who suffer from severe drug-induced perceptual disturbances usually have a particular quantitative EEG pattern. The problem areas overlap the benzo receptor density maps of the brain. This is why benzodiazepienes are used to treat constant visual perceptual problems in these individuals.

Benzos are defintely a double-edged cure. 2.5mg diazepam is a lose dose, but blurred vision has been almost eliminated in unpublished data in a study done by Dr. Henry David Abraham, which involved injecting individuals with perceptual problems (such as these) with a very potent and short acting benzo called midazolam. The symptoms were relieved, but the patient sedated and high.

The side effects of benzos are heavy, particularly in higher doses. Individuals with visual problems caused from hallucinogens usually are placed on clonazepam (Klonopin) because it has a long half life, and has a lower addiction rate then say the more euphoric Xanax or Valium. The dose range is .5 mg/daily to 1.5mg (divided .in .5mg three times daily). However, like I said: I have known too many benzo addicts, and usually you don't realize you are one until something really goes wrong.

Best wishes for you,

David
