im new i just found this site cuz ive been feeling really weird lately
i had a panic attack 2 weeks ago and now im living in a constant state of surrealness. nothing feels real and it feels like i have no hope. i want to see a psychotherapist or something but i cant afford it, is it possible i should check myself into a mental institution?

not a mental institution. anyways i also have derealization like you at first it was really bad and i thought i was going psychotic, but its not like that your not realling going psychotic no matter how much you think. Unless you are having psychotic symptoms like hallucinations, both audio and visual and just go into a blind rage. I can see your fully conscious about ur problem. Just relax breathe and no that your not alone.

freshjive.
You are not psychotic or insane. Almost everyone thinks this at first.
First of all, If you were psychotic, you wouldn't be online looking for answers. psychotic people have no idea that they are crazy. I read somewhere that people with DP/DR symptoms are actually too sane. too conscious about everything they see, feel, hear, and other things.

yeah good questiion. I made the mistake of drinking 6 cans not longer after the dp started. It seemed to help while i was drinking it, but waking up the next day , inside a very large, very rounded goldfish bowl didnt. with my boyfriend looming over me, and the overhead strip light on, made me feel like id woken up too soon from an op. Nightmare . never never again

Another Dp phenomena is..................Traffic Lights.
Why is it your thrown into momentary panic after pulling up at a set? Like your either going to dissapear into particles/ oblivion or start thrashing around in complete terror like a spaz on a day out?

alcohol lowers the brain supply of GABA, making us more anxious the next day. that's why you'll feel worse.

freshjive, no mental institution, you're not going insane, we all thought that at one time. it's anxiety that will go away if you relax, or go see a GP for some meds that will help you calm down. good luck.
