I thought I'd make this post to let people know how I handled my tonsillectomy, more importantly to those of us with DP, the anesthesia.
I'm 19, female, and had chronic DP for over a year now (DR for the first 2-4 months)
I was very worried about how the anesthesia would affect me. I kept trying to explain my condition to the anesthesiologist . . . But he wasn't concerned.
When I was in the operating room I told them I was nervous. They didn't bother to tell me when I would be knocked out. No countdown.
I began to "wake up" ...(i think in the recovery room ?) And I was at max DP (when I'm REALLY stressed/anxious my DP skyrockets.)
I forgot how to breathe ... and move (yeah this happens when my dp is max..).
I had a total panic attack once I was awake and it was not fun. Was very dizzy. My boyfriend knew this wasnt just an "emotional response" like the nurse declared and helped calm me down.
Once I got home and took a good nap I woke up & realized the anesthesia did not make my brain implode like I had imagined.
I'm very spacey due to not taking my usual dose of Vyvanse (which is fine. I need some damn sleep.) Plus the vicodin has kept me from being too anxious.
I threw up a good 4 times yesterday (day of op) from the anesthesia however.
TL;DR -- i did fine on the anesthesia. It didn't make my dp/dr worse (besides when I first woke up) . Didn't make it better either.
