My DP is worse than it has ever been right now. Just very, very, very, very detached. I mean when someone walks into my office it immediately gets worse. Without me even thinking about it.

When it is at it's worst, what do you all do to deal with it? I mean, it is so bad right now I just want to give up. I can't concentrate and my mind is just so frozen. Comments are appreciated. Thanks and take care.

Kelson,

I had the same (or similar) experience last Monday. My DP was out of control and would get worse and worse each time someone approached me at work or just outside.

I think it might be because you're more stressed out thinking that others will notice or that you'll notice your separation from reality more when surrounded by others.

In either case, tell yourself "it's just DP" or "it's just anxiety" and try to occupy your mind with something else. It seems impossible. It seems ridiculous but it works if you do it a lot. Just accept your current state, don't add fear or stress to it and try to keep calm.

It's going to pass. We've all been there.
Good luck!

Dear Kelson,

although not in accordance with your feelings: go out.

You will not go insane. Insanity is a relief compared to DP/DR.

You will have to attach (like a leech) to reality. Emotionally.

Very hard to comprehend in the state you are in - but, you (as the special person you are) are neglecting parts of your feelings and of yourself.

Try to regain control. Realise that you, Kelson, is shaping your own future. DP/DR sucks - but it is no cancer or heart disease.

Hard to believe - but true: DP/DR is self envoked.

Find out what you are avoiding your feelings want. Maybe you want that chick in the restaurant, maybe a different job, maybe to get angry with your mum...Maybe just being honest to yourself. And here the ball rolls.

Do not stay inside - you will focus on your own thoughts more and more. You'll rationalize like Socrates. Do simple things and please try to react on impulse.

Just do - go out, although it seems like a nightmare - and feel the power within you that you are the master of your life. Feel it.

Cheers.

Damn Des,

Each time I read any of your posts, I'm automatically better. Kelson, I hope you can follow Des's advice. It's always worked for me! I just do it along with telling myself that it's just anxiety, that it's fine... that I should live my life since this is nothing permanent etc.

Good luck!

And I do agree that stepping outside always helps. My DP/DR sky rockets when I'm at home the whole day or in the office left with nothing but my own thoughts.

I'm usually out when my attacks. Like driving down the road or going somewhere, like Walmart. I try and get it out of my head, but it just gets stronger the more I'm out. The thing that I found that works for me is a Xanx and a hot bath with soothing music then lying in bed or writing in my jounal. I'm not saying that everyone else is wrong, I'm just putting in my two cents of what works for me.

Kelson, when I feel the dp really bad, I try hard to not think about it, I do things and keep myself as busy as possible. I would distract my mind so that I would not fall into the depths of this horrible illness. It does not take away the awful feelings but it keeps me grounded. I am sorry you feel so bad right now, I wish I knew the right words to help, hope this helps a little.

Thanks all.

I think my depression needs attention again. I was on Zoloft for a while and had to taper off of it back in July, cause I stopped seeing my doctor cause she was moving onto inpatient care only.

I am working on getting back into a Psychiatrist to get back on some Zoloft. Hopefully it will help some!

Take care,

Kelson
