I have been talking to somebody with anxiety, who seems to have slight DR symptoms, but she says that sometimes things sound odd. Like a familiar voice, she says it can sound too fast or too slow, and so on. I've definately had a change in my hearing but it's only got muffled and I can't make out voices from background noise sometimes. Has anybody else heard of these other aural effects? I don't know for sure if she's got DR, she only has it intermittently if she does, but what she describe intrigued me as I'd not heard of these symptoms before.

I find that quite often voices, including my own, sound really distant. And occasionally sounds seem really slow to me and grind through my head. Is that what you mean? Oh no, I hope I don't get sectioned now.

Well, myself I only had problems with music - raw drums in particular - in the first few weeks of my DR problems. The sounds really hurt my head, but the effects went away and have never come back.

It's interesting that I don't see hearing being discussed on here more often. Maybe it's not as scarey to have hearing problems as vision problems.

I live on a main road, and the traffic sounds really different to me, sometimes voices/tv sound really loud, or other times things sound really quiet or muffled, hard to explain

I have trouble with the same thing mulder does - can't distinguish voices amongst any background noise. My hearing isn't as good sometimes, other times it's not as bad. I used to have good hearing. Dp has negatively affected all my sensory perceptions. Visually, I often have trouble whenever there's glare - reflection on glass, etc, and I think that's why I don't enjoy summer as much as I used to and why I feel so strange on sunny winter days.

Yeah, going out on sunny winter days can be quite odd for me too, I kind of feel slightly blinded. I've not had an experience of that for a while though. I mostly notice my own aural problems when I'm in a pub and it's packed out with lots of noise. Trying to hear the conversation I'm having with my mates is really hard in that environment.

I have problems with certain noises especially around large groups of people. I have a hard time concerntrating and some noises are very irritating. I call it the " bee's nest in my head' and I find I have to find somewhere quiet because it usually gets worse till I do.
