I wish they had hospitalized me at age 17, after I reported to the Emergency Room in a state of terror after smoking cannabis. They might have discovered I was

having an epileptic seizure. It took me 40 years before I solved the riddle of my depressions and dp/dr, and ordered EEGs which verified that my temporal lobe

showed significant pathology. Being hospitalized because you pose a threat to yourself or others is not productive, if you really pose no threat.

Being hospitalized for diagnostic purposes can save you a lot of years of suffering needlessly, if it yields a proper diagnosis and treatment.

I know, but I have a friend treated for psychosis and she does not do well. I fear that antipsychotics might as well trigger psychosis or something worse...

I am apparently delusional by the way after I recovered from DP. But I dont know, many therapists associate DP with psychosis right away.

Did the cannabis you smoked cause the epileptic seizure or did you have them before ? Since you've discovered the temporal lobe problem ,have you got any medications the treat it ?

The difference is that with dp your reality is distorted instead of full loss of contact with it. So instead of perceptual disturbances or illusions, its full blown hallucinations. If you arent having hallucinations or extremely strange thoughts (not just existential) then dont worry.
To give an example: Depersonalization makes you feel like you are dead. In psychosis you believe you are dead.
