No, you most likely aren't going to find therapists specializing in depersonalization unless you go check out Dr. Simeon in New York or Dr. Sierra in London for a billion dollars an hour. However, you can find doctors that specialize in dissociative disorders and/or trauma. I'm not sure how your DP came about but it's worth a shot trying a therapist like this. Also, I've heard neurologists know all about DP (hallelujah!) but I'm not sure what they would do. Do a search of your area of therapists online and the drop down list should include dissociative disorders or trauma.

Thanks for thinking of looking for a therapist who specializes in dissociative disorders and/or trauma. That's a great thought. My dp/dr started after a breakup that didn't seem traumatic at the time, but came in the middle of a bunch of huge life changes that made it more life-and-death. Most of the zillion therapists I've seen for this have focused on anxiety, which has been helpful, but the anxiety-producing trauma might be the best thing to zero in on. Thanks again.

My theory is that therapists don't advertize specializing in anything they think will draw in poor people. I believe in this because I also have avpd and have never found a single shrink who claims to specialize in this.
