I guess this is typical DR, but does anyone ever feel like they have no idea where they are, even though they know where they are? Tonight, for example, I went to hang out with some friends at a place I'd never been. I kept looking around and thinking "i don't know this place, where am I?" even though I knew I was at my friend's apartment. Then I started to freak out that I was losing my mind (as is usual) and that i was getting dementia or something. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well. Also, sometimes I feel like all of a suden I have just waken up and look around wondering how I got where I am, even though I know I've been there the whole time. Anyone else get these kinds of thoughts

hi

i get these feelings too although not so much any more. just try not to panic when you feel this as that will only heighten the feeling. try and focus on something else and the feeling should pass in a couple of minutes.

Just seconding what bat said, really.

You should try not to get drawn in or attribute any importance to these kind of thoughts, they don't represent anything fundamentally "wrong", but working yourself up over them tends to make you think that there is.

Peaceboy,

Oh man can I relate to what you are saying. I, however, even find myself with these thoughts in places I have been 100s or 1000s of times. Work can be especially troublesome for me. I look around and think and say to myself all the same feelings that you described in your post. Don't have any great advice or words of wisdom just wanted to let you know that I can completely relate.

Take care of yourself

Yeah I experience this. Sometimes I experience it on an extreme level where its hard for me to comprehend that I'm on a ball of rock called Earth. Hard to explain, its either like extreme confusion or a radical denial where you are aware of the place you are but just can't accept its normalcy.

I agree i get these a lot too.

I find that I get these the most when my mind is under some kind of stress

Be it anxiety, depression, or just sometimes when I am really tired I get these.

Personally I think that when you mind is really stressing out then these flashes happen, they are normal too before I had dp/dr I would get like a few of these feelings when i was really tired. But i know when you have dp/dr they come a lot more.

I know what you're talking about. I remember very vividly one time when I was a teenager, and I fell asleep on my living room floor. I woke up in the middle of the night, looked around, and genuinely didn't know where I was for a minute. I didn't recognize my own living room!
More recently, I've had experiences where I look at things I'm so familiar with, yet they look completely foreign and different. Sometimes that unfamiliar feeling kind of always stays, and I never feel the same about something after it's "changed".

I think it's just 'focusing in' on our environment to much. Normally you don't really look that intensely at your surroundings but when you do you get the weird sensations. We tend to put a magnifying glass on our awareness and really focus in on something around us or within us and then amplify any sensation and start the cycle of fear and weird feelings.
Yes I too get that 'I'm here' feeling. Like you just noticed your existince in time and space.
