do you have a setup where youre able put down tracks/beats/etc?

before i had to change computers, i was running fruity loops and reason and had about a dozen or so completed instrumentals. some straight up hardcore memphis beats w/hooks waiting for a vocal track (i cant rap) ...others a little faster (postal service sounding),any of them you could put it in a club and people would dance. anyway im rambling.

i was just wondering how you do it. im getting my shit back up and running and was just curious...

Well i have Fruity Loops & Cool Edit on my computer, for production purposes. However i don't record tracks on my computer. My friend, has a laptop thats built for recording equipped with PRO TOOLS and an M Box, as well as a mic, etc etc. He also makes beats on Fruity Loops & Cool Edit.

yeah i was pretty heavy into it , before my dp/dr shit came back full force, and i couldnt really get into it anymore. theres a lot i still dont know, but im staying with my pops now, who is a keyboard player and the house has a lot of equipment (roland vs-880 8-track, 2 decent keyboards + my stuff, an ozone midi controller, misc guitar equipment, guitar, bass, akg condenser studio-quality mic) so Im trying to get back into it.

i cant really access the part of my brain that could make music before, so its tough.

that M box you were talking about.. is it a midi interface into his laptop? soz you can record vocals? are you guys running keys into it too?

im not deep into hip-hop/rap like you are, but i respect the genre.
kanye west can make a beat, that new single w/fonsworth the umbrella dude is the jam.

so do you guys have finished product or is it just an on the side thing?

the M BOX comes along with PRO TOOLS which is used for recording, its basically like a professional studio ( with less features) on his laptop. He's also currently going to one of the best Audio Engineering schools in the country right now, where i was going to go to until this DP/DR bullshit happened. He used to have an ASR-10 Keyboard, which is a sampling keyboard though. Other than that him nor i have really messed with a keyboard. We do alot of sampling from old records. Hes a better producer than i am right now, im more into rapping at the moment. And its DEFINIETLY NOT a hobby, its pretty much my life and what i want to do. It sounds like you have alot of equipment at your disposal, i know if i had all of that i'd be putting it to use.

Rap is great man, i know tehres a certain stigma about it because of how commercialized it is now and how it is percieved in the mainstream. But theres ALOT of indiependant artists who are NOTHING like what you hear on the radio. I also listen to alot of old school shit to.
