ok im pretty sure this is a big issue with dp... if were getting anxeity and depression for no reason it has to be a low level of seritonin and this dpression and anxeity is whats fueling the dp. a couple of things that make me think my dp is directly linked to my low seriton in levels, if i drink alchol all symtoms go .. alchol increase the amount of seitonin being released , however the day after is soo much worse maybe due to the extra low levels, the day after drinking i get restless leg syndrome sooo bad and that is caused by low seritonin and when i have restless leg syndrome i will always have dp very very badly. Ive done extasy(b4 i knew i had dp) and all the symtoms went it was like being super normal. I dont really get anxiouse at all about dp soo im finding it hard to understand what is cuaseing it to stay.. also i said the other day about when its sunny i feel sooo much more normal is this cus of the brains natural seritonin boost from sun? Im soo sure this is a big factor for curing dp .. when im in a good mood about something or with my girlfriend i feel soo much better.. therefor if i can make myself in a better mood all the time with 5htp or something surley after time the dp wont have any fuel ... what do you think?

That's not logical at all. It could be totally psychologically caused -- and probably IS, just as all of it except the drug-induced DP or the thyroid-caused is probaby psychologically caused.

Alcohol and tranquilizers have the same basic molecule in them. They're central nervous system depressors -- that's why you feel better with them.

Did you check out the lead I gave you the other day about Seasonal Affective Disorder???

Does your doctor know how you feel?

I get restless leg syndrome too, and it's HELL! I never would have thought that r.l.s. and dp/dr could be related. I wonder if anyone else in the dp community experiences r.l.s. as well? I think maybe the restless leg syndrome causes lack of sleep, which ALWAYS seems to contribute greatly to my dp symptoms onset.

As for the seronin levels being raised by alcohol, I'm not sure about that. I'm quite a drinker, but sometimes I find that alcohol put's me deeper into in dp than anything. The effects alcohol has on me is directly related to my dp. If I'm not having a dp episode, alcohol makes me silly and boisterous, but if I AM having an episode, alcohol just makes me lethargic and even MORE numb. But I don't know, that's just me.
