I was going to write an article on this and then post an excerpt here but i just don't have the energy, especially on a friday.

The Ontario government (Ontario is a province in Canada) has banned smoking in public places outright. The lying, thieving McGuinty government...exhausted from their torrid lovemaking with anti-smoking lobbyists and habitual renegging on election promises, has decided that they might as well just do away with the charade of individual freedoms altogether, and tell citizens of this province what they can and can't do outright.

Here's why this law is stupid: First of all, it is an individual choice, to smoke or not to smoke. Now, i know...all of the little whiners are going to pop out from their cozy little oil-guzzling SUVs, and natural gas burning palaces to say, "Oh...the smoke...<cough> <cough>...it bothers me...second hand smoke...it kills...wah wah wah..." Well...if you don't like it, don't go to a bar. If enough people think the way you do, a crafty entrepeneur will say, "Hey...wait a minute here...i can open a non-smoking restaurant/bar and non-smokers can come here." I know, I know...it's a revolutionary idea for there to be a free market economy in Canada...for business owners to actually think outside of the box, and for government to actually let the PEOPLE decide where they want to go.

The government and the anti-smoking lobbyists will argue this is a public health issue. For whom? Smokers know that it's bad for them. Second-hand smoking is no worse than exhaust fumes from cars, the polluted vomit that spews up from the smokestacks on the lakefront, or the poisonous air that settles around Toronto in the summer. Why doesn't the government do something about this for the health of Ontarians? Why don't they go after car manufacturers...dramatically improve city infrastructure...enfore environmental regulations for cleaner smoke stacks? The answer: It is much more politically expedient to do it this way. Resitricting individual rights in the name of public health.

What's so ironic about this is that there's a youth crime wave hitting Toronto right now, and this has been put on the backburner for this whole smoking thing. What a bunch of idiots.

Anyway, i don't even smoke anymore and this really gets under my skin. it's a teeny tiny tiptoe toward totalitarianism, is what it is. i'm mad as hell, and i'm not going to take it anymore!!!

smoking bans suck big time, I mean I agree that in resturants there should be smoking and non smoking areas becuase people are going to be eating, but a ban on smoking in public areas is ridiculous because passive smoking is not going to be prelevent in an open area. I also think the goverment in the UK is trying to make simliar moves to ban smoking in public areas as well.

yeah right, old men who fought to help maintain the freedom we take for granted, who have probably most lost of their friends, and their one small pleasure in life is having a drink and a cigarette, and then some fanatical group of socialist twits takes that freedom away from them.

Don't these idiots have anything better to do with their time then bitch at everything?
