I have trouble sleeping. that is my issue at this point. as i have said before zoloft doesnt help that either. I wish i could figure out a natural way to fall asleep. anysuggestions. i am eager to listen.thanks

Taking drugs to help sleep usually interferes with the sleep stages. Sleep from tranquilizers(benzos), or alcohol is very unhealthy sleep and does you no good.

Some people take supplements like melatonin or 5htp. For me these supplements only made things worse. I find that drinking a tall glass of milk about an hour before bed makes me really sleepy. Also a little bit of mild excersise a couple of hours before bed seems to get the serotonin lifted a bit.

My doctor told me you always want to sleep in an extremely dark room with no tv on. Ive read that the conversion of serotonin to melatonin occurs when we are in the dark. Apparently thats the reason why people use light therapy for depression. Staying in the light may help correct an imbalance of serotonin/melatonin.

what i was adviced to do when i was unable to sleep is

1] only go to bed when tired
2] do not read or watch tv in bed
3] drink a cup of ovaltine or hot milk before bed
4] try having a hot bath before bed
5] go to bed the same time every night and set alarm for morning...and make sure you get up then
6] put on a relaxation tape in bed[i mean they are so dull they make you sleep]
7] try eating a banana before bed as they higher the serotine level in the brain and aid good dreams
8] if you cant get to sleep after 20mins get up and do something boring like ironing or read a dull book.
9] make love its suppose to be relaxing 8)

i sleep way too freakin much

and when i'm not sleeping i'm beyond tired and could sleep more

sooo much sleep, it's taking over my life
