I CAN'T SLEEP

[>>you might not want to read this part>>

If you haven't noticed I've been posting here daily - almost all the posts probably after 2 am.

I don't know what it is that makes me think staying awake thinking about how I'm not thinking is at all in any way helping me, but I really CAN'T obtain natural sleep...

Still, these are the hours I drive myself MOST insane and I wait for morning and whatever-2 or so hours of sleep I'll have had like its the best thing in the world.

<<]

Is there any sort of drug I could take nightly to help me with this? I'd been taking Tylenol PM, but it makes me SO groggy I just end up napping during the day.

Insomnia and this thing do NOT mix well.. efjkj

I hate you brain.

Try only taking one tylenol pm or better yet maybe benadryl. Also sometimes I take a sleep aid called sominex but I only take half or a third of it. I try not to do this to often because I don't want to to become dependent. Here I am posting at 4 am, I really do feel your pain.

Try something a simple first like tea with chamomile and crap like that. Try to stay away from all the drugs.

You can also try forcing yourself to wake up like at 8 am.... even if you only sleep like 4 or 5 hours, stay up during the day, dont take a nap. Do this for a couple of days and before you know it you'll be snoring at 10PM.

I listen to music sometimes (The benefits of loving trance music I guess, although I guess you could try drum n bass :D ). I'm also going to get a lava lamp to mesmerise myself a bit :D

I just thought about lava lamps the other day. I think I need one too. Now the question is... what color? HMMMM

Thanks for all of the suggestions... I will definitely give them all a try. Not sure about melatonin.. I've tried it before: for some reason melatonin doesn't put me to sleep even though its supposed to knock just about everyone out. :/ I don't know why, I've even taken two..

I was going to go for blue and green...tranquil sort of colours. Although fire red and flourescent green would be kinda trippy

I enjoy listening to some psytrance/ambient music when I go to bed, and, well, seeing as the computer is right next to my bed, there's no reason why I shouldn't. It's greatly beneficial to my tinnitus - distracting the cochlea workings, and what not.

But as far as sleeping medications are concerned, I'd rather not take them. My sleeping patterns have always been erratic at best, so no matter how much sleep I get I always end up feeling like shit. It doesn't seem to affect my DP/DR in that way, either. If insomnia bothers me I just watch TV until I eventually pass out.

Although, I've heard accounts of people using visualisation techniques to help them nod off. The basics of this are slowly creating a moving picture in your head, part by part making it increasingly large and panoramic. This serves as a distraction device for some, and I'm sure it's something worth trying if you're predisposed to insomnia.

And try to stay away from any non-herbal sleeping pills. The dangers with benzodiazephines is that, once discontinued, falling asleep will be even harder than it was previously. It's best to identify the cause and then work from there. Go see a sleep therapist or something.
