Has anyone here had like absolutely terrible side effects when starting a new medicine? Like sent you into a panic attack made you think you were dying side affects?? This has happened once before 2 years ago for me and then I’ve been up all night in a panic attack, no sleep, because I guess a new medicine. I literally felt as if I was dying and my heart is still pounding out of my chest. I don’t wanna be alone in this. Anyone else get scary freak outs sometimes when trying new medicine that doesn’t do well for them ?!

I took some quetiapine a few days ago around lunchtime, at first it just knocked me out, I slept for a few hours, that night my heart rate was 10bpm more than my resting, I was laying in bed panicking.

I know logically with the half life of the medication that it had nothing to do with it rather psychosomatic symptoms produced by my mind and my worry.

Try some mindfulness exercises and deep breathing to take your mind of it :)

I tried a handful of meds before getting on the one I've taken for years now. They all sucked to varying degrees from ineffective to scary, except the one that finally helped. I recommend to most people that they try different meds until one finds the med that works for them. Number 1 Rule: Talk to your doctor about starting, altering and or getting off any and all meds they've prescribed.

Abilify gave me very strong anxiety. I was told that this does happen with that med and by increasing the dosage it should have a calming effect, but I asked to stop it, because my anxiety was so strong sometimes I could not even get up because of how much it was taking all my thoughts, and I didn't want to take the chance. But in the end I didn't care so much because it was temporary. It's bad mostly if it happens at a time when I have something important to do at work, or something like that.

Abilify was one that actually caused me to freak out because my anxiety and everything else was just through the roof. It’s so crazy to me how they all effect different people differently.

I agree, it's crazy. For this reason I think it is not so useful to compare the details of people's experiences with different meds. If meds had reproducible effects there would be only a couple, and doctors would simply give people the best thing and there would be no need to try so many of them. Some meds are notorious for having more side effects than others, or to have some side effects that happen frequently, but even so, I think it can still be worth trying something even if it didn't help another person, because people react so differently.
