Hi Everyone,

A year or two ago I was in a pretty horrible DP/existential crisis, etc hole. Over the past few months I have been working a lot with Andean shamanism. My DP has gotten somewhat better, but mostly I feel more comfortable with it now. It's not a crushing burden on my day anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's still a major part of my life, but it's easier to look at it as a feeling rather than "who I am".

Here's what I did:

-Drank San Pedro Cactus in a ceremonial context* three times. I also read a lot about mescaline cactus. My favorite author being Ross Heaven.

*I found it extremely important to have someone experienced there to hear my intent and guide me though my journey. I would say that regardless of wheather you choose to drink alone or with an experienced practitioner of entheogen shamanism, you must read copious amounts on the subject first. The intended end result of these experiences will be to gain something meaningful and sustainably beneficial. Also, holding it in a ceremony shapes the experience with a wellness-intent. I can imagine that non-ceremonial exploratory entheogen use would be trickier to gain benefits from after the fact, but I have no experience with this.

The reason why I want to post is to give light to the idea that not all 'drugs' are bad. I agree with many posts on this site that try to steer the sufferer away from mind altering substances. My .2 on the subject is; some plants take you out of this world, and some ground you in this one. For me personally, being grounded is helpful. This is not to say that being shown what is outside of this world isn't helpful, but it's just not for me. Andean Shamanism might not be for everyone, but it sure has helped me get grounded in the world and my ideas of myself.

Bottom line: Research the shit out of Entheogen based shamanism. If after meditating on it for a long time you think it might be beneficial, then find a practitioner you trust, or go to a TRUSTED AND RESPECTED retreat center. That's a whole another thing to get informed about. Anyway, there's a lot to learn from the plants, but it can be more hurtful than helpful if used incorrectly/not integrated properly.

Don't hesitate to chat me if you want book suggestions or have more questions about my experience.
