Okay...so recently I scrolled through some topics on this site...then I read this disscusion .... read the first comment about schizo ocd...

https://www.dpselfhelp.com/forum/index.php?/topic/42867-why-anxiety-is-not-related-to-schizophrenia/?fromsearch=1

This sums up pretty good what I think I experience (or is it a psychosis or prodomal phase already..?) Anyway I thought yeah that's cool - until I read this...

"Nevertheless, although anxiety disorder does not lead to psychosis, and OCD in general does not progress to psychosis, sometimes OCD presents as the leading edge of schizophrenia, usually in a young person. In such cases, full-blown schizophrenia occurs within about two years after development of OCD. OCD and schizophrenia can also co-occur, strange as it may seem."

Okay...so I'm f/16 and I'm hell SCARED now...I'm young...does this mean I'm very likely to develop a psychosis soon or??
What do you think??

No, you are not likely to develop schizophrenia or become psychotic. OCD is a co-occurring disorder with DP and a lot of other disorders, and high anxiety is typical with DP.

Take a moment to reflect on what you've done here. Because you're so anxious and obsessed over DP, you've searched the symptoms of it, and are totally focused on the absolute worst case scenario. This has gotten you worked up and terrified to the point where you're asking people if this worst case scenario is likely to occur in the near future. This is exactly how DP/DR perpetuates itself. It's an endless loop of anxiety and obsession over the symptoms that keeps you so anxious and upset that you hinder your own recovery. I've been there, and so have most people on this forum. For me, every symptom surely meant that I had brain damage or a brain tumor, and I obsessively thought about it for a couple of months. Unsurprisingly, it turns out I don't have brain damage or cancer.

Please, for the love of God, stop obsessing over the symptoms of DP. It creates so much unnecessary suffering and makes all of the symptoms so much worse. The sooner you break the loop of anxiety and obsession perpetuating themselves, the faster you're going to recover.

To help give you some piece of mind. The fact you are constantly checking your sanity means you are sane. Schizophrenia is also marked by periods of phychosis, in which you arnt even really aware that your mental state has changed. The fact you can clearly tell whether or not your thoughts seem normal means you are completely sane. Ocd can co-occur with any mental illness and occur as a disorder by itself. I think what you may want to practice doing is try to reduce your terror on developing the disorder. When the anxietys gone, you will be able to tell if the tricks your mind was playing on you were just being caused by anxiety or by something else. Ive experianced the same thing because of anxiety and panic. Ive even had full blown hallucinations due to sleep paralysis and heard people talking when noone was and seen things that werent there.
You may be at the age for when it can develop but you shouldnt worry unless people around you say somethings wrong with you. Like i said before, psychosis is when you lose all touch with reality and arnt aware of whats happening. Therefore, the most reliable source of knowing if somethings wrong is a loved ones observations.
Theres even a few mental illnesses that cause hallucinations besides schizophrenia, like manic depression or bipolar disorder.
You are probably fine. This sounds like typical dpdr as most people with it get this "schizo-ocd" because we are afraid of whats happening to us. If need be, like ive done before myself, you can just let loved ones knows whats going on and to keep an eye on you and let you know if anything strang happens. For me, nothing serious developed and the same will probably be for you as well.

I doubt anyone on here is truly schizophrenic. Schizophrenics hear things no one else can, some see things no one else can. Schizophrenics have delusions, they believe wild, bizzare things about the world and universe. Not fear them, *believe* them. DPed folks fear existential thoughts, schizos believe them. Or at least certain ones.

But what if DP/DR id a symptom of prodomal schizophrenia? I mean a lot of us havw anxiety and depression....
I dont think it is . otherwise people who endured dp/dr and are cured now would suffer from schizophrenia now

however ...dp/dr itself has psychotic elements on it if you ask me . I saw on german wikipedia (I live in germany) that dp/dr is in the "ich störung" ( translated : "me/myself/person disorder") category which seems to be at least somewhat related to psychosis

my doc also says that I have psychotic tendencies when I tell him about my dp/dr symptoms . he also explained to me that he knows that I dont have a schizophrenic psychosis and said that there is basically a continuum from depression all the way to schizophrenia and that some people fall inbetween those both things in various percentages . he explained that me for example I am mostly in the depressive side with a slight shift towards the schizophrenic side ....I would guess 80-20 or something .

you dont need to worry about it . I know what you are going through trust me . I dont even share here all the symptoms Ive had and what kind of thoughts ran through my head . I also thought that I am going schizo....I was actually sure I will . but I havent . and I am 33

there is also no need to be scared of it anyway . there are enough good doctors and medications for schizophrenia . it is not a death sentence or something . of course it is nothing we would wish to have but it is mostly our anxiety that makes the illness seem as if it is the worst thing on earth

I dont think you are going schizo but you should talk to a doc .

why do you think you would become schizo to begin with ? dp/dr and schizophrenia itself are not the same .

btw. I have even heard voices while lucid dreaming . I was not even dreaming really but in a state between sleeping and being awake . I dont know if thats normal but I am sure you didnt experience even that . I also had some delusions since childhood . and even I am not schizo

also what we often forget is that we are just humans ....and some things we experience are normal . there is no reason to think you are crazy for every little thing that goes through your head . even when it is horrible stuff going through your head it often means nothing tbh.

btw. many full blown schizo people are not able to question themselves anyway .....when you are scared to go schizo chances are you are not

but as I said none of us here are doctors

NO you are NOT Schizophrenic and WONT develop it...

This is a classic obsessive DP fear....It is a form of PURE OCD....

Every DP sufferers biggest fear is they will lose their minds at some stage or that what they are going through is something much more sinister or the beginnings of it...

Trust me if you were schizophrenic everybody around you would be very very aware of it...I bet if you ask the people around you do you appear odd or are you behaving odd they would say NO you look and appear very much normal to them...

In fact if you were schizophrenic you probably wouldnt even be aware of it yourself....

You are experiencing classic obsessive fearful DP thinking patterns...In time you will recognise it for the crap it is and it will stop frightening you...Thats when it vanishes...

As someone with OCD I really really need you to stop searching these things. You have OCD and you now have a chance of obsessing over this which will make you more scared. If you don’t have any schizophrenia in your family you literally have nothing to worry about. And plus you have derealization, youd think that as traumatic as derealization is it would already spark some schizophrenia.
