do you guys this whole dp/dr has something to do with repressed memories at all? i think it could play a part. i just want to find out what the cause of this whole thing is, i know the trigger is pot, but i haven't found the cause yet. it has to be deeper someone. there has to be a reason for this. there is a reason for everything. its been almost a year and its been a hellish nightmare blur and i can't remember much of it. its just all felt like a nightmare, i think if i can get to the root of the problem i can figure this out and start getting my life back.

I think the act of depersonalizing is a natural self-defense mechanism. I think children who experience some sort of recurring trauma early on in their lives use depersonalization to cope with said trauma, and continue using depersonalization to cope with milder events for which they could use other mechanisms, but they already know depersonalization works, so that's what they use. After a while, it just becomes easier and easier to depersonalize to deal with everything. So repressed memories or not, trauma survivors, I believe, are more likely to experience dp.
That said, I think brain chemistry has a lot to do with it, and I think pot can replicate these events, even if there is no trauma involved. But pot+trauma obviously is going to have more impact. Hope that makes sense!
