Well, all the studies of emotional processing in depersonalisation done at depersonalisation research unit used fMRI scanners. There are properly more computer power to the scanner and some algorithms that can compare patters. The scanner would not be able to read the mind of one depersonalisation because th constant suppression of emotions to all stimuli.

I think that is what the article is saying. Thoughts and emotions are in a neurological language which transcends the spoken language. A person speaking english who feels a specific emotion generates precisely the same brain activity as an individual who speaks spanish.

In other words, the brain has its own neurological vocabulary for thoughts and emotions which is not individual specific. It's generic. An MRI with the proper software can analyze your brain activity and decipher exactly what you are thinking, and how you feel. The glossary of the vocabulary is steadily growing to more and more

sophisticated thoughts and emotions. You won't have to rely on facial expressions to know what anyone is t thinking or feeling.
