My friend says I am experiencing the prodromal part of schizophrenia! Is it true that this depersonalization and derealization is a early warning sign of schizophrenia. That really scares me, I can hardly handle this. The thought of it turning into something worse is terrifying.

I doubt that it is because I have dp and dr along with anxiety and depression, but I have no delusional thinking or hallucinations. I try to remember that all experiences serve a purpose. I really did not know how much I liked myself until I got the feeling I was losing myself. If this ever ends I will never forget how wonderful it feels just to be me and happy.

I hope you are right, but I sometimes I feel like any moment I am going to lose my mind and not be able to tell the difference between what is real and what is not.

With schizophrenia you would not even know that you are insane, everything would seem perfectly normal and right to you.
With Dp you clearly feel that there is something wrong. DP state is just being more alert about everything(life, death, you, world, anything that comes to mind)
Questions that we usually could ignore while being in normal state really bother us in DP, so its anything else but insanity. I would say that Depersonalization is a condition of being too sane.
