I know a lot of people are reluctant to take any MAOI because of the dietary restrictions and OTC med interactions, but I'm here to tell you that I've had 10 years of great success with 30 mg of Parnate and 3 x .25 mg Xanax a day. I can go for weeks, sometimes months without ever noticing the fact that I have DR/DP. I can visualize my thoughts fairly well, and on the rare occasions when it occurs to my to look to see if things look unreal, I honestly can't tell whether they do or not. My sensory overload from crowds, snow-covered landscapes, and from rooms with flourescent lighting is all but gone.

In the 10 years I've taken this stuff I've only had minor, very infrequent problems with high blood pressure. Cheese, beer, yogurt, ... No problem. If I drink WAY too much coffee (I love coffee!) I feel like my heart is pounding, and you do need to stay away from stout, Hefe Weizen beer, and anything with pseudoephedrine in it. I'm not sure about figs. That's one other thing on the 'to avoid' list, but I mean, big loss! Be cautious, esp. at first, but these things are not the ''one-way ticket to the grave" they're depicted to be. That dietary warning thing is a bit overdone, if you ask me.

I've had this condition since before a lot of you were even born, and I've tried pretty much everything to get rid of it. Open the PDR to any page; I'll give you 2:1 odds that something I've tried is one the page you open to. Parnate/Xanax is the first thing that has worked well enough to make me feel well enough to feel almost "cured". I hope it will work as well for the rest of you.

Well if this Lamictal doesn't work maybe I'll give it a try. I always see warning labels saying do not use this product if you are taking an MAOI though. I'll probably end up getting sick and taking some Tylenol and have some kind of reaction and die or something. I'm not very good at watching what I eat and what medicines I take.

Let's hope lamotrigine works well enough for you that your having to try an MAOI is a non-issue. Otherwise, I swear by Parnate.

A doctor by the name of Oscar Janiger (who apparently suffered from DP/DR himself!) claimed the have gotten "about a 50 percent success ratio using one of the older anti-depressants, a monoamineoxidase inhibitor (MAOI) called Marplan."* I don't know if that means that all his patients had half of their symptoms reduced, if half his patients recovered completely, or, for that matter, if he was just talking big. At any rate, those sound like pretty impressive numbers. Might be worth looking into
