I was doing some research last night and realized that there are many things that could have caused my DR. Things like thyroid problems or even a form a epilepsy. After I realized this, I realized the importance of getting a diagnosis from a psychiatrist. So, if you haven't seen a psychiatrist about DP/DR, I would recommend doing it.

This is one of my new worries... Is there any chance I could have epilepsy and not know it or is it obvious? I would have probably had a seizure by now, huh? :?

I tried to fix the quote. Whatever.
If you never had a seizure, you don't have it. It would probably be obvious if you did have a seizure. If you had any for of epilepsy, it would be something like simple partial seizures, or something like that since you aren't usually knocked out during those.

ok. if you think you have experienced a seizure its important to see a doctor. It is possible to have a seizure at any age when there has never previously been one. it is also possible to have one and never have another one. From experience most adults will know when they have had one, but some do not. There can be a huge variation in the way people have seizures so again if you are concerned it is best to get it cheaked out as the more you have the more damadge occures and the more likely you will seize again if its not managed.I am not going to post any more info than this cause i think it will just lead to inviting some more worry and i dont want to scare anyone!!

I don't see how this thread is very helpful for anyone.

If you think you have a seizure disorder, speak to a doctor. Otherwise this thread is pure speculation and based entirely in anxious fantasy.

I have a friend with epilepsy, and believe me his symptoms have nothing to do with DP/DR, not even remotely. He takes medication which keeps it under control and he lives a normal/balanced life, way more emotionally balanced than mine.

Believe me,if you had epilepsy, you would know that something different is going on, because you wouldn't RELATE TO THE POSTS ON THIS WEBSITE.

Under stress the muscles of your body will occasionally convulse to relieve tension. This happens sometimes before falling to sleep. Its also why having a good laugh or a good cry feels good, because we are convulsing the musculature of our chest, relieving tension. My muscles tick and kick while doing Hatha Yoga. This tension releasing function IS NOT EPILEPSY.

Again, if you have legitimate fears, go see a doctor. Otherwise, you're just freaking each other out with these groundless fears.

The best example I can offer is the following:

Imagine that you had some war trauma (PTSD) from witnessing soldiers blowing up in front of you. Body parts, death, blood splattered everywhere. So you came home and developed a post-trauma anxiety that was crippling you.

Now suppose you spent a great deal of time and energy going to see gory and violent movies.

Suppose you went online and ordered all kinds of biology journals that showed graphic pictures of surgery and severed limbs and missing organs.

Suppose you spent your Friday nights hanging out at your local fight club to watch blood splattering and people's faces being beaten.

And when you went back to the doctor each time, you kept pleading "HOW MUCH LONGER will I have this stress disorder??"

The stuff we do to ourselves KEEPS us crippled.

We cannot AFFORD to read about other illnesses and symptoms and "this condition" versus "that condition"

As Bright said, tell a doctor how you feel. Period. Let the doctor diagnose. Looking on the internet at other health sites and comparing yourself with other illnesses (mental or physical) is like the above person watching gorey movies with severed heads every night.

We cannot FEED the very source of our terror (that our body and/or mind is "betraying" us somehow) on a daily basis and then wonder why it won't go away.

really think about this, guys...because that is precisely what we obsessive types do to ourselves.

I think the original poster probably meant to see a regular physician, not a psychiatrist, who cannot and will not check your body for anything whatsoever.

If you haven't had a physical lately, do it. If they don't discover any problems, ask for a referral to a psychiatrist.

Remember: Anti-depressants have effects only on the people whose brains need them.
