right, im getting alot of problems with depression and all these head zap things, and my sleep is terrible. All these problems seem to be all related in that its to do with lack of seritonin. I was thinking about going on anti depressents, but the stories of side effects put me off big time, thats one of my biggest fears with dp, putting drugs in my body that may ulter my perception..... so what im looking for is a safe way to increase the amount of seritonin my brain is releaseing, im sure it cant be that hard. ive found these supplements and they sound great, but is this sorta stuff actually safe, it says things about anxeity and panic disorders, can you guys have a look at them and let me know what you think, are they worth a go? http://www.topformula.com/product_info. ... anguage=en

thanks in advance, jamie

Hey mate,

I think in your case your DP, depression and so on may at least be partially - probably largely - due to a lack of serotonin because, to put it bluntly, you did a lot of pills.

I think it is worth giving Antidepressants a try. If you don't want to do them, that's fine, of course; but don't feel you can't because of side-effect horror stories - it won't happen and very rarely does.

Besides that you could try a supplement like St.John's Wort. Such things are safe, and can work for some - loads of people in continental Europe use them.

I am, in fact, not trying to poison anybody.

I've tried them, in fact I got recommended to give them a go by my Doctor. I didn't take them for very long, cos I couldn't be arsed, but they are very commonly used in Europe and there's a ton of research pointing towards their efficacy.

It won't do you any harm at all, but then neither will an SSRI, and that sounds like what would be most effective for you.

i'm on 25 mg's of Paxil a day now and it really helps with the DP. my panic attacks seem to occur only outside now, and i don't have extreme anxiety while being indoors anymore. i, like the author also had taken pills before dp, so maybe we have something in common. i suggest to go with an anti-depressant. i can't imagine how it could make your situation any worse than it already is. you'll just begin to be more comfortable in your own skin.

5-htp might help, but i don't know if it's better than an anti-depressant or not. could be evenly shit, or even worse.

i had taken some supplement-like pills before trying Paxil and they were pretty shitty for me.

Like yourself, my second (and worst) bout of DR/DP was brought on by over-indulging in pills (e). I've tried just about every type of non-prescription medication and complimentory jollop since then, and none of them made the slightest bit of difference. At all. Chinese medicine, homeopathy, herbal medication, mega-vitamins...etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a cash cow for the pharma companies (but I'd prefer to be instead of flushing good money down the toilet in the form of 'traditional' medication ), but only industrial strength medication has worked for me. But I dunno, perhaps it just depends on your physical constitution.

I don't recommend it

But you can try it!

It didn't ever do anything for me though.

Most of this natural stuff seems to be crap. I have spent hundreds and hundereds of dollars in the past on good quality forms of every natural supplement possible.

Of course, then I realized it had nothing to do with tossing back a few chemicals...

I think it depends on how depressed you are.

SJW is the most prescribed AD in Germany, and it works for a lot of ppl. but all it did for me is make me more anxious; it interferes with tranquilizers and makes 'em weak.

That natural stuff isn't recommended for major depression; I did a whole doctor supervised/lab tested amino acids program, 5-htp, l-theanine, l-glutamine...all the aminos you supposingly need to rebalance your neurotransmitters. nada. nothing. lotsa $$$ and didn't even get a t-shirt.

but like P3 said, at the end it has nothing to do with the pills you pop.
