Hi, I've been grappling with this weird dissociative state for about 2 months now. It sprang out of a period of extreme stress and my mild OCD. I've managed to reconcile myself with the DP (it's there, but I'm not obsessing about it all day like I was before)... and part of my strength came from reading the posts on this board, so thank you all for that.

But I have a question, does anyone know anything about the following? I have a visual aspect to my condition, specifically a kind of visual static that's a little like a tv screen, only less intense (especially in the dark) and kind of "blobby" patterns. Also, light sources produce lasting afterimages when I look away from them.

I don't know if this is DP or anxiety related, but I have admit, the "schizophrenic" possibility has popped into my mind again. I'm not freaking out yet, but I'm heading there... my psychiatrist just gives me no answers other than "ignore it" or (just what I didn't want to hear) "we have had a few cases where schizophrenics have these kind of symptoms for about a year before losing it".

*sigh*

Well, hi everyone, I'm glad I found this board, and I'm sure I'll be here for a while yet. Your strength has been a big inspiration to me over the last month, and if I hadn't found this board, I would still be stumbling in the dark (why are psychiatrists so damn useless?)

Ever done any hallucinogens?

God I wish folks would not get into the fear of schizophrenia. If you got the gene, you might get it, otherwise no. Right or wrong? You mentioned stress and ocd. That ain't psychosis. It is anxiety.

I ask about drug use becasue sometimes there are residuals that go away. And of course there are pure dp/dr visuals without drug use. I jsut do not relate to "globs", but I do know static.

Oh my. I have not reached my 1 year mark yet. I hope to GOD Im not on the way there.

I get the afterimage thing as well along with static vision. This is typical of HPPD, something that comes from using LSD.

sounds like derealization to me, i think you have that, is it like movie vision ? like dream like? blurry and umm wierd. I have reached the 1 year mark in january, i hope i dont turn schizophrenic, im startin to fear it myself. There is a gene in my family for schizophrenia, my dads brother had it, he has 8 siblings and only 1 has mental problems. My grandma had him when she was 40 years old so that might have something to do wit it. My dr was cannibas induced so i dunno what to expect, i guess ill just hope for the best.

I also have some kind of visual static, like tiny little sparks in the dark - as if I had my eyes closed.

It's normal that light sources produce lasting afterimages when you look away from them, so don't wory about that!
