My GP has decided to not prescribe me an anxiolytic for my anxiety which is getting increasingly worse to the point where i'm unable to leave the house and my dp/dr symptoms have increased, basically he said that i would become dependant on benzo's and they should only be used for those who are psychotic and stated i wasn't so he didnt not give me anything at all and i feel horrendous in this anxiety panic state please any advice?

Benzos for psychotics????? I think your doctor's confused with Abilify, Depakote, Zyprexa, or "stabalizing" medications. Find a different doctor. Make a deal with your doctor that you only want a two or three week supply, no refill. If you don't have a history of addiction I don't see a problem.

OMG! Find a new doctor immediately. Benzos aren't only used for people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, DP/DR, Social Anxiety, etc.

Benzos are also used for people with a fear of flying (They get prescribed some for the flight), for seizure patients, for people who have experienced trauma, etc.

If your doctor thinks that this medication is for psychotics only, I suppose he is not prescribing Pennicilin for strep throat either. Everyone knows Pennicilin is for hypochondriacs

my GP was very hesitant prescribing benzos to me at first, took me 3 visits to finally talk him into it...but that was the biggest mistake of my life. I'll give away everything I have to go back in time and NOT ever have taken 1 lousy benzo (I've since been on xanax, klonopin and valium) addiction rate is higher than heroin.

your GP sounds more responsible than most. I agree with dreamland, make a 2-3 weeks only supply deal, he can't logically argue against that or he IS a total idiot. good luck.
