I had dp for 5 years 24/7 nonstop, haven't drank an energy drink for years, but today I slept only 5 hours and needed something to wake me up, drank a redbull and was fully awake, after couple hours things were clear again and I could connect to myself and people and recognize their faces much more, and I felt less like a robot and more controlling of my actions, dp came back full blown like 30 min later though, what the hell happened?

I think because Red Bull is a stimulant, it probably helped you connect with reality a bit more. I personally had a similar experience much earlier with this condition with ADDerall. Unfortunately, the effects of these stimulants never last, and I think the continued use of them usually makes the problem worse in the long run.

I used to drink 2 Rockstar Energy Drinks every day. This went on for a handful of years and I didn't miss a single day. My heart started feeling funny so I quit cold turkey. I couldn't stay awake for 2-3 weeks. There's something to say about the feelings it brings when drinking them. Actually at work I've relapsed on the energy drinks and have 1-2 a day. They do make one feel more alert. But I think it's not a recovery thing. I think it's more of a feeling that one's mind has been boosted to a level similar to out of DP, in the sense that DP makes one foggy brained and so we don't function at a normal capacity. There's a subtle connection there and IDK that I worded it well.

Red Bull contains the same amount of sugar as a glass of fruit juice and the same amount of caffeine as a coffee, so you will probably get a boost followed by a crash because of those, but it does also contain the amino acid Taurine, which is sometimes thought to help with mental health. Same with Inositol, which I sometimes see on the labels too. I've also read that many soft drinks contain Phenylalanine, said to help with mental clarity, although I don't think that Red Bull does.

Just how effective these substances are is debatable, but it might be possible to get at least some of the positive effect you got from the Red Bull without the side effects just with the amino acids.
