Are you taking any medication? I had something when I was taking some antipsychotics where some perfectly normal movements felt surprising. Like if i saw my shadow move from the corner of my eye it was attracting my attention as if there had been some animal moving there or something, whereas normally I think my mind would take into account the fact that my body was moving and would cancel the surprisingness if the perception. But it felt just like a visual effect. Nothing important.

I mean I don't know a whole lot about dpdr myself (even though I have it lol), but if it makes you feel any better I can certainly relate. I always feel like it's not me looking back, and I can barely recognise myself. Essentially I know it's me, but it just doesn't look right. And say I look in the mirror at the end of the day I'll kinda scare myself.. like I'll be thinking "have I seriously gone a whole day looking like that, I don't remember looking like that" (that may just be insecurities speaking though lol). The point is you are certainly not alone, and I think it's quite a common feeling with dpdr. Best wishes 🙂

Absolutely…I had body dysmorphia at one point and I’ve also seen other posts of people addressing this…sensory perceptions skewed…not just mirrors but looking at other peoples faces and not processing things correctly…not trusting what u see in the mirror to is a common one.

I had to check mirrors constantly to reset myself it was full on ocd..bad bad stuff….got to a point where I had rituals to jolt myself…submerging in freezing water…self harm…bought cheap hearing aids to wear to crank sound cause my sense of hearing was distorted…the whole thing sounds whack and it was….could not get a grasp on my reflection to save my life …looked like complete stranger to myself…just terrifying…sickening.
