Hi. When this first started for me, when it was most intense, and at the height of each days intensty, I would get a "metallic taste" in my mouth. I do not know how else to describe it. Folks who do hallucinogens have described this as well, but I am wondering if any of you who have never done drugs had this strange taste sensation?
thanks

yes, at the height of my anxiety i would always get the metallic taste thing going. it is the strangest thing isn't it? amazing what the human body can conjure up during a negative reaction to adrenaline.

there have been other's who have mentioned this sensation so we are not completely alone. strange, yes, but not alone. :D

But what is it? Terri says adrenaline, right? I always assumed it was some residual recreational drug (strychnine laced e.g.) or something like that. Just always has been a curiosity to me, although it rarely ever happens to me anymore.

I think stupid quesitons like this need to be asked, because you never know when something might hook a researchers curiosity and WHAM! we have a cure.
Ya never know

Hey jft,

I basically came up with that myself as it always happened when my adreneline started pumping. Not really medical info. :?

For about the first 3 months of my dp experience, i had a sharp metallic taste in my mouth all day everyday, but over time it drifted away and i havent had it for about a year now

Unfortunately i havent got a clue what causes it, sorry

I got the "blood" and "metalic" taste. The "metalic" taste is not actually strong, and sometimes I get the "metalic" in smell "flavour" :) I think I am having this since I was 12. I am not getting this very offen in the last 5 years. I think it's irrelative with DP/DR.

Dr. Ashton says metalic tastes and unpleasant smells are common in anxiety states (adrenaline release) and are a "reflections of heightened activity in the central nervous system." When I used to get anxious I always complained about a weird smell that no one else but me could sense. -ru
