Hey, hey everyone!

So I've got antigenes for Lyme disease but it seems like it's not enough for the result of the blood test to be positive. Is it still possible that I've got the disease? Does anyone know?

I've been having some serious neurological symptoms and other basic symptoms as well.

Should I ask for spinal cord sample to rule out neuroborreliosis? Should I ask to be tested for other tick borne diseases and if so, which ones? How about other diseases and infections?

My symptoms are strong, persistent and clearly somatic. I've been making healthy choises, doing the Wim Hof method and as they help me stay calm and positive nothing seems to help to relieve my symptoms as I'm most of the time completely bedridden.

Kind regards J

Yes it is absolutely possible you have Lyme Disease. The tests are inaccurate half the time, Borrelia is hard to detect in the blood. Also the criteria for diagnosis is highly debated on what constitutes a "positive" and "negative" result. If you have antibodies that are positive, that is an indication that something was detected and is there. Keep researching. A negative blood test does NOT mean you don't have Lyme.

No need for a spinal tap, personally I wouldn't do that. Yes there are commonly co-infections with Lyme... Bartonella, Babesia, Ehrlichia, to name a few common ones.

It appears to me you are in Finland? I don't know the status of Lyme Disease there, but in the USA Primary Care Physicians and Infectious Disease Doctors are completely worthless for testing, diagnosing, and treating Lyme. You need a LLMD: Lyme Literate Medical Doctor.

Check out the Lyme Disease facebook groups, there is a lot of information in them. Also I highly recommend watching the documentary "Under Our Skin" on YouTube. There is a Under Our Skin 2 on YouTube also that is a follow up, if you like the first one. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Best of luck!

I thought that my symptoms might be the result of a tick-borne infection. I’m from a Lyme-endemic area, had plenty of opportunity to contract it growing up, and have been having progressively worsening symptoms related to various bodily symptoms, most notably neurological. I went to an infectious disease specialist and I tested negative by their standards. I then took Igenix test and those results came back floridly positive (by CDC standards). I then went to an LLMD who began treating me for Lyme and a few other infections she diagnosed me with. Went on antibiotics, both oral and IV, and several supplements daily for 2.5 years. I can say that some of my gastrointestinal problems got much better, but the more nasty neurological crap did not significantly improve.

To this day, I have no idea whether I was ever infected with Lyme or other tick-borne infections, or if I was, whether my current problems are due to an active infection. Lyme is a ridiculously controversial disease and, after spending much time studying and learning and reasoning, I still don’t know what to think about it all. I decided to treat because my problems are so severe that my existence is an absolute dumpster fire, and I figured it was worth trying, even if nothing got better or if I got worse. Perhaps you might need to make the same (unenviable) decision. Would you like to pursue this Lyme direction, even if it might not work or make things worse? It’s your life, after all.

Thank you for your answers! I am sure that I will reach out to you later @Surfingisfun001 as I got so many questions that unanswered and so much I don't know...

I've got nothing from the doctors and health care professionals I've seen up to this point. So I'm completely ready to try find my answers elsewhere. If my next appointment to a neurologist does not lead to anything I will find a LLMD. I don't know if such "body" exists in Finland and if it is, is it even at the same level as in the States.

Of course I don't want to start treating myself with just anything but I still see Lyme Disease really worth considering and I see many people do as well. Functional treatment speaks for itself. Unfortunately, when the problems are so deep and the damage has been done, finding the right treatment is certainly challenging, if not practically impossible with our knowledge and skills. Am I right?

Yes! It's my life and I love my life and I would do anything to get it on the right track. And I'm only nineteen years old and have hope.

Best wishes to you @Chip1021
