ketamine / detached

im not knowledgable at all when it comes to drugs but today i was watching a tv programme about drugs and its effects...the guy on there said that ketamine gives you a feeling of being detached from your body...now im just wondering if this is the case what effect does ketamine have on the brain to cause this detachment (dp)

Ketamine is a very, very, powerful tranquilizer. It is used semi-routinely in acute medical emergencies where there is severe pain and trauma. In some people, in can make you trip like on acid, with others the experience is similar to heroin or morphine. It's also used to tranquilize horses. Vet's use it a lot because, well, who gives a shit if a rhino goes on a trip.

I took 1 ketamine pill during my drugs days. I hated it. I felt extremely sick, extremely disorientated, faint, with the strange sensation that my arms and legs had bloated to 10x their normal size. I then slept for about a week. Not my idea of a good time.
