Hello guys,

I was just wondering if you think that weed panic attack and post-traumatic stress disorder are the same? Post-traumatic stress disorder follows an even or series of events that are life threatening. The panic attack that follows smoking weed is a life-threatening experience too because the person feels during it that he/she is dead or about to die. In fact, the experience is scarier than being in a war zone especially that it could last for long time. Some people commit suicide to stop that kind of fear. Based on this, should not the treatment for the depersonalisation/derealisation that follows weed panic attack be the same as the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder? Any ideas?

Cheers!

PTSD has some other symptoms you did not mention, so it's not the same.

Your right and your wrong. I've unfortunately had the pleasure of experiencing real PTSD along with this DP/DR which was ironically also triggered by a weed panic attack. Your right because the treatment is actually pretty much the same and good to adhere to for a lot of different problems. It's learning not to fight your feelings, sensations, moods...etc. You have to learn to accept whatever happened and move on and not try to avoid/forget it or push it out of your mind.

Your wrong because in my personal experience PTSD can be a lot more stressful and there are other symptoms. My case was probably on the mild side; I'll spare the details but I was hit by a car. I have the deepest sympathy for all the people who go through much more like combat veterans or abuse victims, and only got a picture of what they might experience.

PTSD reactions are much more traumatic and can cause vivid flashbacks, terrible nightmares, and much worse emotional problems in my opinion.

Both suck though...a lot.

I never smoked weed, due to the fact that there is an ocean of wealth of information available to the general public describing the harmful effects smoking has on your body.

But I have been in a car crash, we hit a tree while driving 75mph. Not a scratch on me. I remember after the crash, the next time I sat in a moving car, I had the biggest discomfort, a fear that came from somewhere very deep, it wasn't a fear that an individual can develop, it came from the brain stem(the oldest most primitve part of the brain), and unlike any other fear, it was natural, like your hearth beating...it just happened to maintain the body...you absolutely could not control it. For the next month, every time we drove, I had the feeling of immense discomfort and fear...no thoughts, just the feeling.
So this was my experience with panick attacks

I can tell you that depersonalization and panic attacks are like heaven and earth. They are a world appart.
Great One were kind of similar on that. I remember one time crossing an intersection when I had it and a car came kind of near me and I broke down crying and in panic and could barely move.

A part of me has wondered how in the world my DP/DR wasn't triggered from all that and instead from a few bowls of weed. But oh well haha weed is wierd stuff.
