Just wondering what ppls thoughts are on this one? I'm personally of the feeling that drugs (i.e. Medicinal ones such as antidepressants, anxiolytics, not your normal street variety) only treat symtoms on a temporary basis, but full recovery can only be achieved by finding your own way to deal with dp.

Hey man, I think I've contracted DP after two heavy psilocybe-mushrooms-and-pot sessions within the space of two days. I'm going to try a couple of techniques over the summer to try and alleviate my symptoms (hopefully non-chemical), so I'm going to get ahead of myself here and say that drugs shouldn't be used. :p

Btw, I live in Wales also. Where you at?

I didn't mean those sorta drugs, lol. I meant antidepressants, anxiolytics, etc.

sorry, I really should have clarified that beforehand, but I suppose I'm a little sloppy minded at the moment.

I'm from the Rhondda, but I'm up in Edinburgh in uni for half of the year. U?

And the trigger for my dp was a panic attack after WAAYYY too much pot :x , feel like such an idiot sometimes. neway cya later.

i believe this can be beaten without drugs, cause it came on for most people without them.

Im generally not a lazy person, so if i set my mind on something ill finish it, and this is one of those thigns i set my mind on. I dont think drugs are the way to cure mental illnesses (unless they are like actually physical disturbances in the brain, and not psychological processes)

Thats just me personally.... i will not take a drug for this until it gets way out of control, but if you want to, be my guest :)

well, this is kinda hard to choose... I'm biased at would go with the first option, but I'd also go with the last option that everyone should find what works for themselves.

my answer is, drugs are not NECESSARY.

I've written a couple things on this, but I think the way to get better is to go to the doctor, get a check-up, and find out where your hormones are at and where your vitamin/mineral levels are at. Find out if you have any food intolerance or allergies.

My DP/DR was caused by a crash because I was low in Vitamin D, Magnesium, and most of my hormones.

I honestly believe a lot of serious changes & reassessments to what built up such an extreme level of dissociation helps most. There seems to be many very different ways to get DP, whether it be extreme traumatic events or lifelong mental suffering/stress from perhaps a fundamental conflict between your core personality and the brutally opposite opposing society.

I voted drugs should not be used because I am against them. I don't believe we need synthetic chemicals to cure us of this, seeing as the disorder is not physical like schizophrenia. We have exactly what it takes inside of our brains to rid of this, but if people need the help then by all means the drugs are necessary.
