while i await my 2nd appointment for one on one therepy(the first appointment i couldnt make due to it being miles away/there cock up btw)
ive recieved a letter from a local place that ive been to already for 2 assessments and theyve asked me to join theye therepy group every tuesday night...now is this a good or bad thing ?

the woman who i spoke to who hit the nail on the head with what i was suffering from told me that group therepy wouldnt help me as i would be sitting down with other people dealing with other issues,so im a little confused will it or wont it help me ? i meen what good is it going to do me talking with people that dont even share the same problem,i dont want to disregard it completely im just wondering if its in my best interest

jc group therapy has helped me a great deal. It hasn't meant total triumph over the syndrome, but it did give me some insight into possible emotional sources of this dysfunction, and while I was the only one who had it, I did make a lot of connections with the experiences and illnesses of others, very different from mine, but there were similarities in emotional logic. The thing about group therapy rather than one to one is that it is experiential rather than intellectual, and so you learn through the process of it. Takes a long time and requires persisitenc. I am in an episode at the moment, its not as severe as previous ones and I am employing coping strategies learnt at the clinic, so that is some kind of progress. Mine is very ingrained, started aged ten and got no real treatment until early thirties, so I suppose I have to be patient and believe that it will disappear altogether. I am thinking of joining a group in London to continue the war effort. Sarah x

I think it's worth a try. I personally found group therapy and individual therapy to be great. The gal I worked with was very possitive that I would get better and so when I was feeling hopeless, she helped me to get possitive again. I think that is HUGE in our recovery.

Every therapist is different. You may love it or it may not be a "fit". But I think it won't hurt and it's worth a try.

Good luck!
