Anyone had experience with the Beta-Blocker Inderal ?

I've been rushed to the ER with a heartrate of 130 for more than 6 hours.
With a terrible complete spaced-out feeling...that is with me since a few weeks. Worse than before.

I'm kinda scared to take it since I've been having a hard time with Xanax, a withdrawal of 1 1/2 year.
Well, and I'm scared to feel worse on it, more DPDR I mean...

Any hints >?

I have used Inderal before but now use Atenalol which is another beta blocker.... It is perfectly safe, it keeps down the number of Pre Ventrical Contractions I get...Also It slows you down. You may feel a little tired at first until our body adjusts. If you feel to slowed down you may ask your doctor to adjust the dosage.. I know they had started me on Inderal and I felt so tired....but when they switched me to Atenalol 25 mg per day,, i did just fine and have been taking it for approximately 5 years.

Just let your Doc know how you feel on it.. He will monitor you on it .

Do you think it could make DPDR worse in any way ?

My DR is bad right now but I've had 3 attacks of Tachycardi and ended up in the ER to correct it.
Now I have a bottle of Inderal 20mg and not sure if I should take it.
I should for my heart but scared for my DR.

I have used Inderal in the past briefly. I found it ineffective in treating DP. As far as Atenolol goes I wouldn't recommend it either except for hypertension or heart beat irregularities. It is a beta blocker which selectively targets cardiovascular receptor sites. Like kchendrix I too have been taking it for about five years. I take 75 mgs per day.

Inderal made me feel pretty spced out and dreamy when I first started taking it and it is often associated with feelings of fatigue and depression for many people.

It does work for some people though for helping with anxiety. In fact it was often used by atheletes in the olympics when a steady hand was important such as archery or target shooting. Also it has been used to treat stage fright.

If you are still taking Xanax as well it may be a good idea to keep it on hand in case of possible anxiety when you test your reaction to the Inderal. The Inderal wears off pretty quickly by the way as i recall. Probably worth a try.

Best of luck

Hey JF,
I took 25mg Inderal (propranolol) 3 times a day for a few weeks recently, and I was scared to take it at first too. but eventually I did, and it did nothing for me good or bad in terms of DP. I didn't even feel tired on it, nothing. Cripto swears that it "saved his life" during his withdrawal from whatever benzo he was on. It's an adrenalin blocker so I personally see no way that it could make your dp worse. once I'm off benzos completely I plan to carry it around with me all the time to avoid another nasty withdrawal panic attack! take it ;) -rula

I,ve taken inderal (propanolol) for about 20 years. I 'm now on 160mg daily. It hasn,t affected my d/p d/r.It does seem to help to some extent with my general anxiety although palpitations can still be a problem for me.
