I'm not so sure that the problem with DP/DR is that you feel "cut off from your identity" or "behind a veil". I think the problem is that you want to be on the "other side". It's that feeling of going in and out of "there", and above all, the feeling that you don't have a choice of whether you're in or out.
Some quick advice... Don't try to be in or out. Be wherever you are at the moment. Whenever that fear grabs you just notice it. Don't fight it. Take a deep breath, and think of something besides how you feel. Go cook yourself a nice meal, or pick up a book and read it, or clean your bathroom. Or maybe go give some advice to a friend......
