If it's the latter case, then simply acknowledging the thought and that it is kind of silly should suffice.

Well, no, not exactly. Most DPers (from my experience) don't actually believe those things, rather, they describe their experience AS IF they are dreaming, the only ones in existence, etc. If not, then perhaps I've been mistaken all these years, and I don't really have DP, but something else (which could very well be true...my experience is in many respects different from most on this forum).You know well enough that existential thoughts don't listen to reason.
