This study explains that hyperventilation is extremely positively correlated with causing symptoms of dp/Dr in anxiety patients. I have had this theory before and am coming back to it again now.

I have mentioned this theory before but had a slightly different technique to slow the breath. I would focus on 'air hunger' in the chest and try to slow the breath.. I think this is a bad idea now as it caused distress and was still me trying to control the breath. Now I am focusing on the breath in the nose and not changing the breath.. with time the breath slows to the point that my nose doesn't seem sensitive enough to detect the breath. I hope with time this sensitivity increases so my body can sense that I am breathing just very slowly, thus allowing a more relaxed and slow breath to continue. This is one part of vipassanna meditation, a type that has cured somebody of chronic DPD on this site before. I would also note that as the breath slows, there is tension in the belly (maybe diaphragm) relaxing and twitching. I will keep at this and update results. If anyone finds any other papers/science behind hyperventilation and DP/DR it would be great if you could post it here
