I think (from my own experience) that most doctors are aware of Depersonalisation and Derealisation, as they are often symptoms of depression and anxiety, but I don't think a lot of them are aware of Depersonalisation Disorder itself, which is comparatively rare, or seems to be.
I still believe that Depersonalisation Disorder itself is where the initial trigger has passed, but the brain has someone got 'stuck' in the DP mode, for whatever reason. It may be some weird biochemical reason, psychological, or the event trigger itself may have something to do with it.
I passionately believe that your own 'approach', for wont of a better word, towards your problems is the key to the solution, or at least it might open the door a crack. Medication will not, or has not so far, been able to cure DP disorder. At best, it can stabalise you while you figure out how to get the hell out of the mess you're in.
