Hello, my name is Amber and I'm fifteen, I'm to this site and don't know much about it but I figured I should post something so here it goes.
Well, first I went to emerg because of a massive panic attack after having dp/dr for several months and not knowing what it is. I was provided with psychiatrist who didn't know shit about shit and told me I was skitzophrenic. I knew I wasn't. So needlesstosay, she jacked me up on celeza and zypreza. Neither helped so after seeing her for monoths all she had was sh erecommended councelling. And thank thank god, months later I got a new psychiatrist who pointed out this condition right away. I've recently been put on paxil and am still on zypreza which I will discontinue soon. Anyway, a lot of people have been telling me paxil will just fuck you up more. But other people in m y family have gotten great results from it (not for dp/dr) I experienced lots of trauma and had experimented with drugs and I think thats what stemmed it. Anyway, I would appreciate any advice, or any medications that have helped anyone so I can recommend them to my doctor. K? thanks.

Welcome and very glad you found us!

Yes, often doctors who are not very smart will assume that dp in a young person is a sign of schizphrenia and not even bother to look beyond that. I had the same thing thought about me (I developed dp as a teenager) and well, here I am at 50, clearly not schizphrenic. Also, just to console you, I am NOT still dp'd....this need not last your lifetime. I just post here because I'm into mental health and a writer and I like the board.

You might do well to try the paxil. If you don't like it, you can always stop, but after trying Zyprexa and living through that, paxil won't freak you out in the slightest.

Let us know more about your symptoms, and please feel free to ask any questions you come up with!

All the best,
Janine

yeah zyprexa sucks

ssris are like this: i took luvox at 14 and it did nothing. in the throes of DP, i took a high amount of zoloft and it was awful. mainly because i had such massive anxiety that the ssris side effects made it amplified.

so... take a decent amount, build up slowly, all that stuff. you can always start a very small dose, which was something i didn't do and i have a feeling that, in the name of trying to take away the dp, some other people on here don't do (they try to start with as much of the drug as possible to take the dp away NOW, etc. just a theory)
