hey everyone..i don't know if you remember me..but i'm back and i have a few questions :? .

well i know i've asked about heart problems before but i seriously think i have one and my mom is hesitant in taking me to the doctor. she makes excuses and acts like its nothing. it might be but how am i supposed to know. so i'm wondering...for those of you who think or have thought you have a heart problem..what are your symptoms?

my resting heart beat for the past month or so has been around 100. soemtimes more rarely less. i get heart palpitations every once in while...and my blood pressure is 85/144. i think...i;m not sure if that's good or bad.

anddd i'm 17 and a few people have told me young females aren't likely to have heart problems.

so if anyone has any idea what this could be...maybe just anxiety but i seem to be dealing with my anxiety pretty well. i have to go but if anyone has any info or anything please please please tell me thanks

hi Lauren,
are you sure you dont have your blood pressure number mixed up ..normal is systolic wich is the upper number should be below 130 and the diastolic number the bottom number should be below 85. the way your number reads it looks as though you may have them switched around if not, you need to have a doctor check you out cause your way off. dont panick cause it doesn't mean your going to have a heart attack right now or anything there are a lot of way to fix your blood pressure. as for you heart beat anything over 100 beats per minute is considered too fast. again its not like your going to have a heart attack but after a long period of time like this obviously things are going to get worn out. heart palpitations can be no big deal but if you have all of these things going on at once its worth getting things checked out.
What you should worry about most is finding out what your blood pressure is. It kind of looks like you just have the numbers mixed up though and if that is true then your fine.
I know all of this cause medication i was on gave me all the symptoms you are describing and i am now going on a bata blocker whish should fix these symptoms i also just have always had episodes of a rapid heart beat.
are you on any medications? It doesnt matter your age, if you are worried it doesn't hurt to have a doctor check you out. do you go to school if so just go to your school nurse and ask them to check your heart rate and your blood pressure for you and they will tell you if they think you need to see someone about it.
dont get to anxiouse cause it will just make your heart race more. I hope i helped and didnt make you more nervouse but i think you will be fine. good luck. :D

Hi Lauren

I wouldn't be too concerened with a fast heart rate. It's called tachycardia and it's common for people your age. What you should watch is your blood pressure. You say its 144/85. The top number is a little high for someone your age. The top number, the systolic number, indicates how much force the blood is exerting against artery walls and the bottom number, the diastolic number, indicates the pressure when your heart relaxes. The fact that the top number in no way indicates a heart "problem", but it should be a little lower. Tell your mom this. Also, palpitations are normal espescially if you have anxiety or drink coffee. They are uaully harmless and should be distinguished from heart murmers.

Hang in there,
Ken

the fact that youre checking your heart rate is a little strange. i mean.. unless you really feel chest pains or rapid heart beat then its most likely worry and possible hypocondria. regardless you should get things checked out if anything just to put your mind at rest. i did this too with a breast lump. i obsessed about it for like 8 years.. when i finally got the balls to get it checked come to find out it was just normal breast tissue. the lame part is that i had to lay there for an hour while 3 different MALE technicians felt me up over and over trying to find what they most likely knew from the beginning wasnt there.. and to tell me that i was fine and not to come back for another 20 years.

I know nothing about blood pressure but I've always had a fast heart beat. Resting pulse is acceptable or regarded as normal up to 100, especially when you're young. My resting pulse when I was extremely anxious was between 90 and 120, constantly.

I think we all had the logic explanation that our heart was wrong...
If it can ease your mind, go and have it checked, and it will surely removed the weight of anxiety related to that...it's free (is it?) here in Canada it is...

I'm sure your heart is healthy, but somtimes we have to trust ourself...even if we were insane =)

PS : Anti-depressant and many medecine can cause heart palpitations and pressure alteration.

Lauren. I have my heart thumping in my chest all day. I "forget" about it.. I hate Doctors.

Do you take "the pill"? (Just asking) I had to S.top taking it, because I had these python constricting feelings around my chest and like fluid was in my lungs drowning me..

I think your heart can be stress more than anxiety. And worry. I can "hear" your worry.

I think, if you're 17, you should ask to see to get a blood pressure check. I think it sounds as if your mum is dramatic. I'm imagining the fact that your mum thinks getting your heart seen to is an "indulgence" would freak ANYONE out.. :)
