i was watching tv last nite and saw a programme on neurological functioning.part of it was about stable people who had head injuries to their frontal lobes/temporal lobes and subsequently lost the abbility to feel emotion or empathize properly.empathy was only possible on an intellectual level.it went on to do case studies of mentally ill people with malfunctioning or malformed lobes.very interesting stuff and also very relevant i think in many cases on this board.i feel as soon as the pharmacutical companies loose their grip on the market, neurology and genetic research will be huge in the treatment of mental health.im sure many here will take comfort in this, those of you who have tried freudian psychiatry and meds to little avail.im a fan of psychiatry to an extent, but i think it only goes so far for more serious cases of disfunctional neurology, itself a hereditary condition.

What channel widescreened? And yes, I totally agree with your take. Ultimately, I think most of psychiatry is just about dysfunctional neurology, barring a couple of things that you can aquire after birth, like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and ultimately, that too becomes dysfunctional neurology/biology. For instance, almost all cases of PTSD produce more thyroid hormone than you or I. Its their body's way of staying on alert. So its been hypothesized that rather than start them on an antidepressant, why not start them on a medicine which lowers heart rate and thyroid hormone, ie, a beta-blocker? Of course, mainstream psychology just continues on its way. But a good psychiatrist has to be a renaissance doctor - able to tie together neurology, toxicology, endocrinology, gynecology, and more.

it was on late nite irish tv.cant remember the title.it concluded with japaneese scientists in a lab creating a robot that responded to stimuli.terminator stuff!!but the cornel of the documentary was building experience from neurological stimuli as opposed to the other way round.very very interesting.
