DP is connected to several systems in the body related to balance of the human body one of them is the vestibular system.
There are some ways that DP can be induced by scientists.

I have been reading about the science behind out of body feelings and found an experiment about it here is the article

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3064103/Brain-scans-reveal-happens-body-experience-Event-causes-place-cells-trigger-person-s-built-GPS.html

So drugs that make people feel like they left their bodies might affect these neurons.
The next step is trying to find connections between this issue and depersonaliation

In another article "the findings showed that the conscious experience of where one's body is located arises from activity in brain areas involved in feelings of body ownership, as well as regions that contain cells known to be involved in spatial orientation, the researchers said. Earlier work done in animals had showed these cells, dubbed "GPS cells," have a key role in navigation and memory"

Pay attention to "brain areas involved in feelings of body ownership"

Body ownership -> feeling of no of no body ownership -> Depersonalization

The scientists who found these neurons received the Nobel Prize ,which shows why not many understand DP and the feelings associated with DP and why out of body experiences were regarded as something metaphysical

This is smart thinking , i always wondered the same thing because In an expert experiement I read about they shocked patients to try to induce an OBE and how depersonalization basically make sure you feel that in a highly negative way
