I recently qualified as a psychiatric nurse and commenced work at a unit which cares for people with advanced, chronic dementia.
This experience has helped me gain perspective on my situation (dp'd constantly for ten years and counting).
Any Automatic Negative Thoughts, ruminations or abstract concerns which occur now seem pathetic in comparison to the situation the people I work with (and their loved ones) must endure (with no hope of recovery).
Although not for everyone, I can certainly recommend working within a caring profession for forcing you to think outside yourself.
