I went to my doctor today and he thought that I would get more effectivness out of Paxil instead of my 10mg of lexapro that I was on.

He says that he had several people who had personality disorders and as you can imagine their detachment was great. He said that Paxil made improvement in 4/5 of them. He is pretty sure that it will help my DR.

This doctor that I am going to knows his shit. I have gone to several differnt people and no one knows what DP/DR is, when i approach them they blow it off and say it is something else like i jsut have a little anxiety, might be from this might be from that. Basically throw me in any direction and it sucked. Till I found this guy, I went in there knowing a lot from researching on this forum about the disorder, and he basically said word for word what I was on this forum about the disorder. He knows about it and I feel like I'm in good hands with him.

So what I want to know is what do you guys think about paxil? He claims it will work.

i'm taking Paxil 20mg and i could say that it's helping. reducing the DR level in at least 50%, but could make you tired and freaky dreams.

withdrawl effects:
sometimes when i forgetting to take the pills for more than 2 days i'm getting "zaps" in the heart and my breath is shortening for a second, but it's not severe.

!!!zaps in the heart damn thats a first i heard of zappies in the head but not heart heh.

Yeah I dont know why I am saying this proudly lol but I am a zoloft vet, I experienced a few side effects but nothign really bad from that. I think a lot of effects come from not tappering it properly.

I know paxil takes a while to kick in and I have been on it 1 week nothing differnt.

But I have felt more paranoid, like tonight Ihad a really unreal feelings and panic attack one of the worst I have had in about 5 months.

I think i recall that A-D initally making people anxious and paranoid. Can someone back me up on that statement?

paxil was good for my panic attacks, other than that don't think that it helped at all (not DP or DR). Plus the sexual side-effects were brutal.
I did quit cold turkey, and it was pretty bad. I just said to myself, think of it as a one week bad full body and head flu.

But pre DR, it was a life saver for my panic disorder 9 yrs ago.

When I went on paxil I have noticed:

DR is much worse, I feel very spacy

Cant pay attention

Feel like I am going to faint my level of conciousness is low

My anxiety has been raised

I guess basically my anxiety started up more than normally and then my DR kicked in and made other symptoms which also can create more anxiety. So its a cycle. I think what has happen to me is that my DR kicks in because I go into extreme anxiety and it damages something or throws off something in my mind. It usally is bad anxiety but it is normal anxiety, i think that is why i always have DR.

I was feeling pretty good when I was on lexapro at 10mg it took about 2 months and it started to take the anxiety edge off and my dr was slightly better. But I wanted to kick DR in the testicals so I went in to my doctor and he recommened paxil. Ultimatly I want to get on lamictal with paxil.

I THINK that my symptoms from paxil are temp. that it has to build up in my system get used to it, I hear that A-D going on them for the first few weeks can be hellish but whatever.

Hi,

I am on Paxil tapering because it didn't cure me from dp/dr and made me tired, made my memory much worse and in bad states of dr, just put me w/o physical problems but didn't help real dr.

I tried ALL SSRI's and Paxil is the worse to taper off. I have zaps, emotional downs, suicidal thoughts, and I am only at 10 mg since 3 days. When you stop it, you are less numb, but extremely nervous.

I don't know if I will make it, but before you take Paxil, think twice. Other SSRI's aren't like that for tapering.

BE CAREFUL with Paxil, I am beginnign to think it is making my DP worse. I am taking 10 mg a day and have just gotten the worse one ever. It did help with panic attacks, but there has to be a better treatment for DP. What's the latest?
